- I would first of all like to say...thank you!
I’ve had migraines since I was 5. Yes, I said 5. At 25 I was diagnosed with endometriosis after being on the pill for 9 years. I had the surgery, it didn’t help. In fact it left me in need of a lot of guidance & therapy because my pain was not gone & mentally I went through a lot with the surgery alone. Not only did it take me more than 2 weeks to recover from the surgery to remove the endometriosis cells but I no longer felt like my normal self. Sex was non existent to me. I didn’t want my partner to even touch me. And I still had my endometriosis the very next period so the doctors first suggestion was the pill, again. And after going on it again after coming off for a year & a half, I went crazy. My body rejected it. I told my gyno & she said there was nothing else she could do. I talked to other gynos & their go to was the pill. I didn’t want the pill. I liked who I was mentally & physically without it. I’ve been searching for answers since & this book gives me so many options as far as helping heal myself. I got this book at 3pm & I’m already on chapter 7!!
Very informative & very useful information. I can even google everything supplement wise that Dr suggests for your symptoms & guess what it’s natural & proven to work in a lot of women! And guess what it’s better for your body than the pill or surgery! - I am a pediatrician and use to prescribe the pill often for my teenage patients. The more I learn of the information that Dr. Brighten includes in her book, the more I realized how much I was not helping my patients. I purchased this book for a family member who had been on the pill for some time. The information she has in the book is truly invaluable and allows us to see clearly the issues with the pill, and if nothing else how to handle the consequences that can come from it. I LOVE this book and will recommending it to many families. I think it is a must read for anyone considering the pill for many reasons.
- Beyond the pill has a lot of really great information that I believe everyone who menstruates should read. I've also read similar books, like finding your root cause, and what I found distracting in beyond the pill was that almost every other paragraph has a shout out to the author's branded supplements or programs. It just felt like an overwhelming ad that I didn't get with similar books. Nonetheless, the information and recipes still make this book worth the time. I also follow the author on Instagram and she's really fun, down to earth, and informative.
- After the birth of my first child, I really felt at a crossroads about whether or not to go back onto birth control. There wasn't a lot of advice out there about the pros and cons of going back onto the pill vs staying off. The medical professionals I spoke with encouraged me to continue birth control. Even though I was a physician myself, I felt really torn because there wasn't a lot of readily available info about how it depleted vital nutrients, decreased libido, etc!!!! I wish this book had existed back then, but I'm so thankful it exists now. Dr. Brighten has written an empowering and insightful guide for women. I will be recommending it to my patients, wholeheartedly.

One of the reasons I bought this book is so that my young teenage daughter has a resource to use to navigate her hormonal journey. I’ll help guide her, with the help of this book, when/if issues arise until she is old enough to tackle this on her own. I want her to understand her period and her body. Down the road, I want her to understand her birth control options and what she can do to help support her body no matter what she chooses. Many years ago, I didn’t know that birth control pills could be so problematic and or what to do when my hormones are out of balance. This book will help my daughter be more informed than I ever was.

It talks about your period and how to understand what is going on each month (which will be useful to young girls and the older crowd who need a refresher course). - I am a physician assistant and woman who considers herself super healthy. So much so that I have worked 11 with a nutrition coach for 2.5 years, I exercise 5-6 days a week. 3 months ago something felt off.
